Sometimes a pair of secateurs just
won't get the job done.
This is when we reach for a saw or pair of
loppers. As with their pruners Felco produces some fine saws and
loppers.
Felco saws can be had as folding saws or fixed saws. Both get the job
done quite well, I have used both and carrying a folding saw along in
the field can be a great connivance.
Remember to keep your saw and loppers clean. Not only will they stay
sharp and last longer but by keeping them clean you reduce the risks of
transferring a disease organism from one plant to another. Sap and
other debris can be removed with a spray such as WD-40 and a cloth. To
help prevent disease spread clean well between trees or species. (Some
like to disinfect their tools with a dilute clorox solution - always
keep moving parts oiled). When cleaning for storage or after sharpening
I like to use a few drops of olive or an other vegetable oil. Be sure
to cover all metal surfaces to prevent rust.

The longer handles on loppers
allow for a great increase in leverage when cutting. These two should
handle just about anything that does not need a saw.
